Barbie Bonanza!

The holidays are here and the shopping frenzy has begun! Even though I did go out on Black Friday or should I say Thursday night and got some good deals, my great shopping day was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. My mom and I were able to get a sneak preview of an amazing Barbie sale through our local homeless shelter's thrift store. The amount of dolls and low prices were unbelievable! I bought Barbies that I had when I was young. It was a collectors dream!

Yes all those boxes you see, wall included, are Barbies.

They had other dolls also. I thought this Terri Lee doll was so sweet.

Fair Time

Even though the weather here is still warm and people are wearing shorts and flip flops, the fair is my great reminder that fall is here and the holidays are just around the corner. Every year for as long as I can remember I've been going to the fair, eager to bite into that corn dog or ice cream bar, walk through the different exhibits, or enjoy a concert. Whether it was going with my girlfriends or family (and some ex boyfriends in there too :P), it's been a long-standing tradition.

What I ate this year: corn dog, fish taco, corn on the cob, chocolate dipped ice cream bar, cheeseburger, and a cinnamon roll. Hey I was there for 8 hours! Haha;)

Some past concerts I've seen at the fair: Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, Bryan Adams, Chris Isaak, Third Eye Blind, Jewel, Clay Walker, Switchfoot, and Stone Temple Pilots.

Floppys and Fedoras

Whenever I see hats I have to stop and try them on! :) I love to accessorize and hats are a fun touch. When I was at The Grove in LA about a month ago there was a cute little kiosk by the farmers market that drew me in. I tried on a couple floppy hats that were paper made... yes paper!

A couple weeks ago I was browsing Macys and found the perfect floppy fedora! I'm kicking myself that I didn't bring it home that day and that I didn't get the brand but I'm determined to be wearing it this fall!

I love this picture for Armani Exchange in Nylon's Sept. TV issue. Her hat looks amazing and is so similar!

In this month's issue of Lucky they show two different type of floppys.

Fall is undoubtedly my favorite time of year... cool breezes, pumpkin spice lattes, and boots! I am a boot fanatic, I have several knee high boots and I'm really looking forward to wearing over the knee socks with them this season. They are so cute and a great way to keep the stems warm! ;)

Getting Ready For The Holidays

A week ago I was able to go to an estate sale before it was open to the public! What fun that was! My mom, dad, and I left there like bandits! Haha. My buys seemed to relate to the change in season... scarf, leather gloves, blanket, and Christmas decor. I keep finding holiday items, hmmm... must be something in the air. ;)

My Latest Treasures

Like I said before... you never know when it's going to be your day! That one day thrifting when you seem to find one great thing after another. It's such a great feeling, making all those other days you didn't find much, worth it! I had my day this last weekend.

My first find was this high quality Christmas silk centerpiece. I used to work at a flower shop and these centerpieces were so expensive, mainly because they were prearranged for you. My cost $6.00! (Please ignore the fact that I haven't cleaned it yet hehe.)

My next treasure is so adorable! He reminds me of the Swedish chef on the Muppets, haha! He is a vintage 60's utensil holder, with holes in his bottom too. When I came across him I thought he was cute but had no idea how old he was until I asked my mom. Maybe you have to have lived in that time to remember how things looked but she could look at it and tell me that it was from the 60's. I located him on the internet and sure enough, he is! Thanks mom!

This next great find is my sweet little Mikey doll. I'm like a big kid, I love vintage toys and I've never come across him. My mom and I mistook him for the Joey doll in the same series, which is the one I had when I was a toddler, but I love him just the same. ;) My cost $6.50.

And last but not least my precious apron. Another item my mama helped me with. It's from the late 50's early 60's! The tip she gave me on how she new what time period it was from was that it has red flocking, a very delicate detailing which wouldn't be used on a replica, simply beautiful.

A Thrifting We Will Go!

I had such a good holiday weekend visiting my family in the mountains and it started off with a bang! I drove up Saturday and met up with my mom to go thrift shopping in one of the local towns. My mom is a great person to go thrift shopping with! She is really good at judging the authenticity of things. I asked her about a few items (that ended up being my best finds) and she gave me an idea of what time period they were from and she was right!

I love these little luggage cases. I have a caramel color one that I use for my toiletry items when I'm going to stay the night somewhere.

I thought the design on this mirror was really pretty.

This little lady is a Swedish vintage candle holder and I had a hard time putting it back down but it was a little more than I wanted to pay.

I thought this little Jalopy by Fisher Price was so cute!

My great finds are yet to come!

Coastal Thrifting

Of course I had to stop by Goodwill when I was at the coast this weekend. I admired these cute antique dressers, mainly because of their hardware. I loved the fact that they had locks on each drawer. I don't see that too often. Also this first dresser had handles like one I have at home that my mom gave me.

My thrift purchases were light that day but I did buy a floral button down shirt and a Disney album I don't have, 101 Dalmations. It has the Cruella De Ville song! :)

A Day At The Beach

I finally made it to the coast! It was a long overdue trip, but worth the wait. There is something about the beach that makes everything better. It's my little escape.

When I got there the fog hadn't cleared so it wasn't warm enough yet to go on the beach so... I browsed the shops of course, but not without stopping in Mon Ami for a coffee.

I always like going into Panchos Surf Shop for sunglasses. I've been in there many times but have never looked up at their decor. They have the cutest vintage movie posters! The one I really liked is from one of my favs Gidget Goes Hawaiian.

Later that day I drove to a nearby town and found a street fair going on so I decided to find dinner there, a hawaiian chicken bowl... yum!

I did make a couple purchases shopping that day. For some reason I've never liked mexican ponchos but that changed this weekend. All of a sudden I could picture myself wearing one with cute shorts, flip flops, and my hair up in a bun. I ended up buying two ponchos and a flattering fedora. ;)

All in all it was a great day!

Weekend Thrifting

Thrifting is so unpredictable. One day you can go into a store jam packed full of things and find nothing. Another day you'll find things left and right! Ah the joy of the hunt. I'm very adamant when I tell first time thrifters that they have to take the time to search. People make the mistake of doing a quick look around then leaving and that one treasure could've been lurking behind all that other stuff and they would've never known.

I really liked these old vintage looking chairs but had no idea how I would clean the seats. They were pretty dingy but cute as can be.

This was my one great find... a very comfy, like new office chair that I'm going to use at my makeup desk. Cost $30.00
A similar chair with arms goes for over $100. Score!

Mag Must Haves

I absolutely love when new mags hit the shelves! They're my roadmaps for what direction to take in fashion that season. Harper's Bazaar UK August issue has some great pages on fashion and beautiful photo shoots. I especially enjoyed the article titled A Vintage Crop. ;) I also liked what they did with their cover shot of Emma Watson, giving it a soft romantic touch.
People's Style Watch is always a must for me. It's my trend items catalog, showing a variety for each item, the brand, cost, and sometimes where we can purchase it, and we can't forget the fun celebrity candids.
Last but certainly not least, Allure's September issue is my beauty insider. It has helpful info on skincare and useful makeup tips. And how appropriate to get the beautiful, non aging Salma Hayek for the cover and interview, to learn her beauty secrets!

1940's Tea Dress

I'm so excited that the 1940's tea dress is back in trend! It reminds of the darling dresses that Rachel McAdams wore in the movie The Notebook. They dressed with such style and class in the forties. I'm glad to see that class back in our dresses.

Mac Makeovers

It was a great weekend to be a girl! Shopping, Mac makeovers, and mani pedis with a girlfriend helped me temporarily forget the 100 degree heat. My friend decided to have a Mac makeup artist do her eyes with the green shade in the Double Feature #4 palette. It looked great! It was done with four shades: Shroom, Bamboo, Double Feature #4, and Carbon. She even tried a pair of the false eyelashes! A couple of the brushes that were used: 224 and 242.

Finding My Niche

A couple weeks ago I found a great little treasure in Larchmont Village in L.A. called Hardwear (great name). The whole store screamed me. It had a rustic vintage feel. I loved everything in that store! I came home with a couple belts, tees, and pairs of earrings. I can't wait to go back!
